Three Interstate 75 overpasses where a group of youths threw rocks at passing cars -- killing a college professor with a chunk of concrete -- are getting chain-link fences along their walkways.
The Florida Department of Transportation is installing the fences along the Manatee County overpasses to prevent tragedies such as the rock-throwing death of Julie Laible last year.
"If building chain-link fences will prevent throwing rocks off overpasses, then we'll do it," DOT spokesman Gene O'Dell said.
