While still settling into his new position, the head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) already is pulling together some initiatives aimed at streamlining the Geneva-based organization's development of policy matters.
ITU Secretary General Yoshio Utsumi, warming up for his keynote address today (6/7) at Supercomm '99 in Atlanta, outlined a plan for informal groupings of experts who he said will serve in effect as "policy sherpas" to - like the Himalayan mountain guides - carry issues along for the eventual consideration of the ITU's membership.
