The state has awarded $131,750 to allow New York Institute ofTechnology to take over Huntington's "Aluminaire House" - a metal residence built in 1931 and hailed as a prototype for mass-market, middle-class housing - and move it to the college's campus in Central Islip.
The Aluminaire, or "the tin house" as some critics refer to it, has become in recent years a symbol of the struggle between architectural historians and land-hungry developers.
