But Will They Call It The Rev. Moon Hotel? The Unification Church may be going into the hotel business in abig way. The church already owns the former New Yorker Hotel on 34th Street and Eighth Avenue, three blocks from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, but has never run it as a commercial operation. Church followers have occupied the 2,000 rooms since the Rev. Sun Myung Moon bought the place in 1976. Now the 41-story hotel is undergoing major renovations and many of the 1,200 church members living there have received notices to clear out in three months. "I've heard that it's going to be run as a regular hotel, an apartment building {or} that a major hotel {chain} will run it," said Richard Lewis, editor of the Unification News. David Hager, an attorney for the church, said that "many hundreds of thousands of dollars will be spent on repairs," but that the ultimate use for the building has not been decided yet. "Of course, the best use would be a commercial hotel," he conceded. - - Idol Worshiping
