The framed pictures of Charles M. Gage and Eugene Tollner that have greeted generations of patrons in the elegant Brooklyn seafood-chophouse bearing their names now gaze out toward a changing future.
Edward Dewey, whose family has owned Gage & Tollner since 1911, said he has received "some nibbles" from potential purchasers for the turn-of-the-century restaurant, after placing the building on the market more than a year ago for $1.8 million.
Although they have received no firm offers yet, Dewey, 67, and his wife, Trudy, 66, hope that this year, as the landmark restaurant marks its 109th year, they too will be able to commemorate it - with retirement.
