A 6-year-old child, watching puppets on television, is told by an announcer to type the word "Press." The child scrambles to type the correct spelling into a computer linked to the TV set. "You are right. Good work," a computer voice says. "Now type the word `Answer.' " The word is clearly displayed on the TV screen. The child copies it into the computer. "That is correct," the computer responds. Soon the child is wrapped up in a spelling lesson. From the next room, a parent overhears the computer bestowing the following praise upon the child: "Terrific!" "Wonderful!" and even "Outstanding."
