Two venerable Hanover Square private clubs - the 74-year-old India House and the 60-year-old Broad Street Club - will merge July 1.
In the wake of the stock market crash, the clubs have watched their lucrative luncheon business decline sharply. And as pink slips become as common on Wall Street as trading slips, other private clubs say they are also feeling the financial pinch.
Managers at both the Broad Street Club and the India House yesterday refused to talk about the pending merger. "This happens to be a private club. It's a private matter," said Nicholas Bator, Broad Street's manager....
