A Brooklyn Roman Catholic church and a Manhattan synagogue were damaged by apparent arson within seven hours of each other starting Wednesday night.
The first of two small fires was set at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Brooklyn at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Then, shortly before 5 a.m. yesterday, two hand-carved doors at the Central Synagogue, a 150-year-old national landmark building in midtown Manhattan, were torched and charred.
