Denos Vourderis was a happy man last week. He was surrounded by about 600 screaming kids he had invited to his Coney Island amusement park for a free day of fun. This was the second year that the Police Athletic League used his park for its annual outing.
And he was secure in the knowledge that the kids from low-income neighborhoods would enjoy his rides for many years to come: the Wonder Wheel, the centerpiece of his park, recently was declared an historic landmark by the city.
