GEORGE WASHINGTON may not get respect from the advertising world on his actual birthday, but New York plans to honor the father of our country appropriately on the 200th anniversary of his inauguration. Next Sunday, 200 years after President Washington took the oath of office on the balcony of Federal Hall in Manhattan, the New York City Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution plans, among other things, to dedicate the Museum of American Constitutional Government at the historic site. Here are some of the scheduled activities for that special day in our history:
10 a.m.-11 a.m.: Ecumenical Service at St. Paul's Chapel, Broadway and Fulton Street. Concurrent services in houses of worship throughout the five boroughs are planned; bells will be rung at the conclusion of these services.
Noon-1 p.m.: Commemorative Inaugural Ceremony of the museum at Federal Hall National Memorial, Wall and Nassau Streets. Limited space at this outdoor event; first come, first served; no charge. Former Chief Justice Warren Burger, chairman of the National Commission on...
