New York's parks fairly bristle with little-known opportunities for learning, fun, sport or simple al fresco feasts for two. So, get rid of the stuck-in-the-concrete-jungle blues, pack your knapsack - whether Vuitton or U.S. Army surplus - and head out to explore some of the city's hidden pleasures. MANHATTAN
Gotham Miniature Golf Course. Although it's nearly two years old, few but lunchtime duffers are familiar with this Central Park course. Located at the Wollman Skating Rink, the course is a perfect summer use of the facility, park officials say. Gotham's hours are Sundays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. An adult can play 18 holes for $6.50 or 9 holes for $4. The Fireboat House Environmental Center originally was one of 22 stations housing city fire boats. Now it belongs to the Neighborhood Committee for the Asphalt Green, under the auspices of the Department of Ports and Terminals.
