The sister of Marine Capt. Manuel Rivera Jr., the first New York casualty in the Persian Gulf war, yesterday stenciled his name outside the cockpit of a jet similar to one in which he was killed.
During a ceremony at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum on Manhattan's West Side, Lydia Rivera also spray-painted a stencil of Rivera's call sign, "Buick," on the exterior of the only Harrier jet on display in the Northeast.
"This is definitely a great honor for me. This is the first time I've seen a Harrier since my brother passed away," Rivera told reporters.
Choking back tears, Rivera said that stenciling her brother's name on the jet "means so much to my family."
