Washington - A key congressional committee is expected to reject funding for a new Amtrak facility to replace Penn Station, sources said.
The Clinton administration had requested $90 million in 1995 funding for the new terminal, a pet project of Sen. Daniel P. Moynihan (D-N.Y.). But sources said that the House transportation appropriations subcommittee recently refused to authorize any of the proposed spending, and the full Appropriations Committee is expected to follow suit tomorrow.
This is the second setback for the project in recent weeks. Another House committee last month dropped the terminal from a bill reauthorizing federal subsidies for Amtrak - an action that some sources say may have emboldened the appropriators to refuse Clinton's spending request.
