The Port Authority yesterday approved a long-talked-about, light-rail line that will make it easier for travelers to get to Kennedy Airport.
The $1-billion project could be started by the end of the year, pending approval by federal aviation authorities. It would be completed by 2001, although portions of the 8.4-mile line could be running before then, officials said.
The rail line is part of a massive transportation plan for the metropolitan area that Gov. George Pataki announced last week.
