After a disastrous re-routing wreaked havoc on commuters and Upper East Side residents, traffic flowed across the Queensboro Bridge yesterday with few snags and an extra vehicular lane to boot.
About 100 pedestrians and bikers protested last night, saying that now they are paying the price, but Department of Transportation officials said they were pleased with the changeover.
"Traffic does seem to be moving considerably faster," said Brice Peyre, spokesman for the DOT after observing yesterday afternoon's rush hour. "Of course that doesn't mean the transition is perfect. But it's going...
