In a sign that passengers might eventually have a direct train ride from Manhattan to Kennedy Airport, Port Authority officials yesterday said they would consider linking the planned Kennedy light-rail system with a revitalized Rockaway Beach rail line.
Queens Borough President Claire Shulman last month called on state officials to study revitalizing the abandoned Long Island Rail Road Rockaway Beach line, which stretches from Elmhurst to the peninsula.
Port Authority officials said if the state reactivates the line, they would be willing to allow up to four trains an hour to enter Kennedy Airport via the planned light-rail system scheduled to be built by 2002.
That would create the "one-seat" ride from Kennedy to Manhattan that has been championed by Shulman and transit advocates.
