The upper level of the Queensboro Bridge will be off-limits for Manhattan-bound travelers beginning tonight, with changes to the evening rush-hour traffic pattern.
The switch, which only affects the evening rush, begins at 3 p.m. in Queens and 3:30 p.m. in Manhattan and remains in effect through 8:30 p.m., said Maria Smith, a Department of Transportation spokeswoman.
It designates all four lanes of the bridge's upper level for Queens-bound traffic, instead of the usual three. Two lower-level lanes also will be open to Queens-bound drivers. There are usually three lanes on the upper level and two on the lower level open to Queens-bound traffic.
Those heading to Manhattan can drive in the remaining three open lower-level lanes.
