PUERTO RICO'S Olga Tanon is a vocal powerhouse. She brings so much energy to her performances that she can impart meaning into the most mundane lyrics. She's that rare blend of substance and star power. (And she's beautiful too!)
Her new album - her seventh for WEA Latina Inc. - is "Te Acordaras De Mi." Produced and arranged by Rudy Perez, "Te Acordaras" is a customized pop confection designed to place Tanon in the Latin music mainstream. Unfortunately, the songs just aren't up to the great Tanon's talent. She saves them anyway.
Tanon's impassioned delivery throughout "Te Acordaras" is impeccable. She's the driving force behind thumpers like "Tu Amor." Just listen to her energetic exhortations during "El Nino" or the way she soars over the chorus at the coda of "Un Hombre Y Una Mujer." It's magical.
Yet she can also be so tender as on the Yoel Henriquez-penned title track. "Enganame" and "Escondidos"...
