Congress has set aside nearly $2 million for AirTrain projects in Jamaica and efforts to ease congestion along the Van Wyck Expressway in southeast Queens.
The projects were among 60 across the city and Westchester County, totaling $200 million, that area members of Congress announced would be part of the 2001-2002 budget.
The AirTrain, a light-rail system connecting Kennedy Airport with regional mass transportation at Jamaica Station now under construction, is expected to be complete in 2003, and local leaders have high hopes for its economic impact.
Congress will send $930,000 for a series of AirTrain projects, including pedestrian access, marketing initiatives...
