After 70 years of selling apples, cucumbers and oven-fresh apple pies to neighbors, the Klein Farm in Fresh Meadows will clean off its shelves today - to the displeasure of some neighbors.
Some have come to depend on the annual Thanksgiving Day pies and daily fresh produce, and many are not pleased that the site may be replaced with two-family homes.
"I can't believe it ... they're going to close," said Anita Oberwiler, 35, of Flushing, after learning the news yesterday. "My husband is going to cry."
Oberwiler and her husband have been buying apple pies, cherry pies and peach cobblers from the farm for more than 10 years, she said.
Hard times, poor sales and changing lifestyles have forced John Klein to sell the farm to an undisclosed developer.
