Subway service will return on Sunday almost to the way it was last Sept. 10 as officials open a half-mile stretch of track damaged in the terrorist attack and then rebuilt way ahead of schedule.
The changes - primarily on the 1 and 9 lines - mean express train service returns to Broadway, and commuters to Staten Island no longer have to walk blocks from the subway to the ferry.
"It's really a big shot in the arm for lower Manhattan, for the lower Manhattan economy and for the city," said Carl Weisbrod, president of the Downtown Alliance.
