The AirTrain at Kennedy Airport could start operating as early as June, the Port Authority's chief financial officer said yesterday, announcing the project is again a priority after a fatal accident last fall temporarily derailed it.
"AirTrain will open this year," Charles McClafferty said at a news conference outlining the Port Authority's $5-billion budget for 2003.
He said the agency aimed to open the elevated railroad - which would link the airport and subway system - by June. Other Port Authority officials said the opening could come in the summer or fall.
"We're still waiting for the final investigation," McClafferty said.
