It wasn't difficult for Paul Masi to pick a design to submit for this year's architecture awards. All he had to do was walk through his front door and the answer was obvious.
Masi submitted the design for his East Hampton home named after his wife, Elizabeth, and snagged an Archi Award at this year's 39th annual awards celebration.
The Archi Awards, handed out last month and sponsored by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, provide public recognition for architectural projects of "design excellence." Masi was one of six Archi Award recipients, and about a dozen others received commendations and special awards, with the projects including homes in the Hamptons and Switzerland, a restaurant in Brooklyn and a penthouse on Third Avenue.
The focus of the Masis' home is change of seasons, says Masi, a partner at Bates & Masi in Sag Harbor who won in the residential category.
The house allows the Masis to enjoy the changing scenery with the help of three large overhead glass doors that roll up and allow the southern end of the home, which includes the living room and kitchen, to be opened.
