New leaders named to the LDS Relief Society, a women's organization, may signal continuing interest in the church's literacy projects.
Bonnie Parkin of Salt Lake City, who once served as a counselor in the general Young Women's presidency and on a previous Relief Society general board, will head the women's service organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Parkin, who has a bachelor's degree from Utah State University, chose as her counselors two women with strong backgrounds in education.
