ROSEHILL / City Will Manage Bellevue South Park Now After seven years of uncertainty created by the lingeringvestiges of the city's fiscal crisis of the 1970s, Bellevue SouthPark is finally joining the roster of facilities run and maintained by the city Parks and Recreation Department.
First planned as a city park in the 1950s, the 1.6-acre parcel, running from 26th to 28th Streets between First and Second Avenues, wasn't built until 1979. It was the effort of the Committee for Bellevue South Park that brought it to fruition, officials said.
Only after the committee agreed to maintain the park was a $1-million grant set aside for its development. Committee members raised $50,000 through a variety of community programs to keep the park in shape.
