JAMES JOYCE seems to be a favourite among dramatists, perhaps because his verbiage allows them the indulgence of expansiveness in an art form where too many words are usually counter-productive (pace Shaw). Joyce wanders in and out of Stoppard's Travesties, and features centre-stage in Tom Gallagher's Mr Joyce is Leaving Paris. The focus in Lucia, a new play by Robert Forrest, is Joyce's tragic daughter, Lucia.
