MAGISTRATES at Llandudno last night granted police a 24-hour extension to continue questioning a man arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of seven-year-old Sophie Hook.
He had been in police custody in Rhyl since his arrest earlier in the day. A second man also arrested yesterday was released on police bail.
Police yesterday searched homes within a few hundred yards of where Sophie's naked body was found on the shingle beach of the North Wales holiday resort.
Detectives are convinced that finding the pink and white nightie she was wearing when she was snatched from a tent in her uncle's garden is a vital step in identifying the killer who sexually assaulted and strangled her in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They are increasingly certain the murderer is a local man or has detailed local knowledge.
