Abstract (summary)

Geometrical features of the scapula and humerus relating to the glenohumeral articulation were studied in order to develop an accurate model necessary for the design of an anatomical shoulder joint resurfacing arthroplasty. Independent, key dimensional parameters were identified for each bone. The relative interrelationship of these parameters was determined. The articular surfaces of six scapulae and humeri were represented as sets of three-dimensional points in space and the geometrical nature of the resulting information characterized.
