Une trajectoire d'instauration des œuvres en arts visuels issue de l'expérience du déplacement

Cette étude est centrée sur l'exploration d'une expérience d'instauration des oeuvres en arts visuels dans le but de cerner les motivations, les orientations et les contextes de travail qui opèrent sur le système présent dans les oeuvres. L'artiste et son œuvre jouent un jeu sans fin, qui comporte des principes et des règles parfois flexibles et à d'autres moments rigides. Ils explorent ensemble des trajets dans un territoire plus ou moins défini. Ils trouvent dans ces explorations de nombreux imprévus, déviations, surprises et accidents. La question fondamentale de cette étude est la suivante: quels sont les règles et principes de jeu qui balisent le parcours d'instauration de mes œuvres? Pour arriver à y apporter une réponse, une brève description de l'ensemble de la production artistique est d'abord présentée. Cela comprend six différents regroupements d'œuvres sur une période de neuf ans où j'ai participé à la dynamique de production et d'exposition, de 1996 à 2005. Pour approfondir les analyses du processus d'instauration, je présente la description de ce trajet pendant une période qui a généré la série des tableaux-lits (2001 à 2003). Ce récit d'expérience devient un point de repère important pour demeurer à proximité des faits, des sentiments, des sensations et des valeurs qui ont motivé et déterminé ces oeuvres. Ainsi, je cherche à cerner les bases de ce trajet instaurateur à travers différentes perspectives.

Un aspect original de cette investigation réside dans le croisement des bases théoriques pour supporter l'exploration et la compréhension de l'expérience, d'une part, des domaines philosophique et poïétique avec Étienne Souriau (1956; dans A. Souriau, 1990) et, d'autre part, de l'anthropologie et de la psychologie avec Mario Berta (1984; 1999; Benoît et Berta, 1987). Le but est d'aborder la prise de contact avec mes œuvres d'une manière globalisante, dans une perspective ontologique. Tant le parcours de cette recherche que ses résultats peuvent ouvrir des pistes méthodologiques dans le but de saisir le processus instaurateur des œuvres d'autres artistes.

La réflexion sur cette expérience du faire artistique confirme et exemplifie la vision, nourrie au moins depuis Heidegger (1980), à l'effet que l'œuvre et l'artiste se construisent mutuellement en participant à un jeu sérieux. C'est la connaissance du fonctionnement de ce jeu à partir de sa dynamique intérieure qui constitue l'intérêt de cette recherche sur le processus instaurateur. L'exploration et la compréhension des informations contenues dans le rapport d'instauration doivent s'appuyer sur la situation questionnante (É. Souriau, 1956) qui a initié ce processus dès le départ et qu'il faut cerner, de même que sur les informations relatives aux principes généraux propres au trajet instaurateur, tels que la liberté, l'errabilité et l'efficacité (É. Souriau, 1956). Ceci conduit à considérer l'exploration et la compréhension de l'expérience à partir des trois niveaux possibles de perception des manifestations symboliques (Berta, 1984): niveau sensoriel, centré sur la présence aux sensations; niveau psychique, centré sur la conscience des dualités, tensions et questionnements générés par les ambivalences au cours du trajet instaurateur; et niveau axiologique, centré sur les manifestations des valeurs transpersonnelles que l'artiste porte en lui. This study is centered on the exploration of an experience of setting up works in the visual arts in order to identify the motivations, orientations and work contexts that operate on the system present in the works. The artist and his work play an endless game, which involves principles and rules that are sometimes flexible and at other times rigid. Together they explore routes in a more or less defined territory. They find in these explorations many unforeseen events, deviations, surprises and accidents. The fundamental question of this study is the following: what are the rules and principles of the game that mark out the path of setting up my works? To arrive at an answer to this, a brief description of the entire artistic production is first presented. This includes six different groupings of works over a period of nine years in which I participated in the dynamics of production and exhibition, from 1996 to 2005. To deepen the analyzes of the process of establishment, I present the description of this journey during a period that generated the series of bed-tables (2001 to 2003). This account of experience becomes an important reference point to remain close to the facts, feelings, sensations and values that motivated and determined these works. Thus, I seek to identify the bases of this founding journey through different perspectives.

An original aspect of this investigation lies in the crossing of the theoretical bases to support the exploration and understanding of the experience, on the one hand, of the philosophical and poietic domains with Étienne Souriau (1956; in A. Souriau, 1990) and , on the other hand, anthropology and psychology with Mario Berta (1984; 1999; Benoît and Berta, 1987). The goal is to approach the making of contact with my works in a globalizing way, from an ontological perspective. Both the course of this research and its results can open up methodological paths with the aim of grasping the founding process of the works of other artists.

The reflection on this experience of artistic doing confirms and exemplifies the vision, nurtured at least since Heidegger (1980), to the effect that the work and the artist construct each other by participating in a serious game. It is the knowledge of the functioning of this game from its inner dynamics that constitutes the interest of this research on the initiating process. The exploration and understanding of the information contained in the introductory report must be based on the questioning situation (É. Souriau, 1956) which initiated this process from the start and which must be identified, as well as on the information relating to the general principles specific to the initiating journey, such as freedom, errability and efficiency (É. Souriau, 1956). This leads to considering the exploration and understanding of experience from the three possible levels of perception of symbolic manifestations (Berta, 1984): sensory level, centered on the presence of sensations; psychic level, centered on the awareness of the dualities, tensions and questions generated by the ambivalences during the founding journey; and axiological level, centered on the manifestations of the transpersonal values that the artist carries within him.
