A Las Vegas casino magnate and site promoter for last year's David Tua fight with Lennox Lewis has founded New Zealand's single biggest literary award.
The $60,000 Glenn Schaeffer Prize in Modern Letters, which will be awarded every two years to an emerging New Zealander writer, was announced by Prime Minister Helen Clark at Victoria University last night.
Glenn Schaeffer, the president and chief financial officer of the Mandalay Resort Group - which operates such Las Vegas icons as Circus Circus and the Luxor - has also helped establish the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University.
