WORK on strengthening Wellington's earthquake-risk Thorndon overbridge began yesterday.
The work will use revolutionary techniques which are expected to save millions of dollars on the original estimate.
In May last year, Transit NZ approved a refit estimated to cost $15 million, a figure that disregarded other necessary strengthening work on the Aotea Quay off-ramp, which was deferred pending decisions on development of the adjacent railway yards.
