NEW YORK was recovering yesterday from one of the largest invasions of pipers and drummers that the world has seen.
Thousands of musicians from 26 countries took part in a spectacular gathering of the clans which brought Manhattan to a standstill at the weekend. At least 60,000 New Yorkers thronged Sixth Avenue and gave a rapturous reception as rank after rank of a seemingly endless pipe band marched in celebration of Tartan Day.
