WALSALL were given an important lesson for the future when their inexperienced side crashed out of the LDV Vans Trophy in a one-sided match at the Britannia Stadium last night.
It was this. Their squad has nowhere near the strength in depth of promotion rivals Stoke who were able to make seven changes from their league line-up and still outclass the Saddlers.
The Potteries outfit could have doubled their total and thoroughly deserved to reach the northern area semi-final of the competition in which they face neighbours Port Vale next Tuesday.
Having beaten Wigan reserves with a young side in the previous round, manager Ray Graydon stuck with the kids in order to rest his main men before the Second Division match with Bury on Saturday.
