A PLAN has been devised to save a crumbling castle.
Whorlton Castle, near Swainby under the Cleveland Hills, dates from the 12th Century and is a scheduled monument.
The castle and its gatehouse, a Grade I-listed building, have been subjected to repeated vandalism over the past ten years as well as experiencing deterioration caused by the weather.
They have been on English Heritage's Buildings at Risk register since 1998.
Now, the North York Moors National Park Authority has prepared a conservation plan to protect and enhance the site.
