NEWLY composed music is hardly a rarity on the current Scottish or Celtic folk scene, but usually takes the traditional form of individual jigs, reels, strathspeys and so forth. A key aim of the annual, Sunday Herald-sponsored New Voices series at Celtic Connections is to offer musicians accustomed to these confi nes the chance to stretch themselves on a larger creative canvas - often for the first time, as with the last of this year's chosen composers, the young Glasgow-based accordionist, piper and pianist Mairearad Green.
