James Bateman
James "Jimmy George" Bateman, 82, of Danville, Boone County, died Friday, February 22, 2008.
He was born September 7, 1925, in Raleigh County, the son of the late Okey and Delia Pettry Bateman.
Mr. Bateman was also preceded in death by sons, Jerry and James; brother, Cecil; and sister, Louise Fernatt.
Jimmy George was an Army veteran, a former coal miner, and a general laborer.
Survivors include his companion, Barbara Duty; sons, Dempsey of Parker, Pa. and Earl of Spencer; daughters, Patty Carper of Speed, Roberta Bateman, Lisa Nichols, Phyllis Kiser, and Brenda Bateman, all of Spencer; brother, Raymond of Muncie, Ind.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Harley Hill and Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Drawdy Cemetery near Peytona with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5578.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Paul K. Bays
Paul K. Bays, 85, of St. Albans, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.
Paul was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans and was a retiree of Union Carbide.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lee Bays.
Paul is survived by his only daughter, Barbara Byus; grandson and wife, Mike and Amanda Byus; granddaughter, Kimberle Byus Smith; great-granddaughter, Taylor Smith; and two great-grandsons, Will and Jacob Byus, all of St. Albans.
Paul's family would like to thank Cindy Cobb and the staff at Country Villa for the wonderful care given by them to Paul.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of arrangements.
