LIKE the rest of the country, we took time out last week to contemplate the reality of gender inequality. Just a couple of minutes . . . but long enough to remind ourselves of how nonsensical is gender bias and to commit to treating our female colleagues with the dignity, understanding and fairness with which we would like to be treated ourselves. That was all: a small recognition and a private undertaking to do one's best.
We would love to have taken a day off and rambled up to, say, Wicklow for one of those seminars so beloved by the most progressive elements in our society. We would love, for instance, to have gone to the gig that was held last week at the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation. It was called Enhancing the Seeking of Women who Understand.
