PILOTS already have the historic White Horse carved on the side of Sutton Bank to guide them back to the Yorkshire Gliding Club, but now they have a new landmark.
To mark the club's 75th anniversary, the figures have been painted alongside the grass airstrip nearly 1,000 feet above sea level on the western edge of the North York Moors near Thirsk.
The anniversary celebrations, which continue through the summer, start today with an event hosted by the club's president, Moyra Johnson, now 93, who was one of the pioneers of gliding.
She first flew solo in 1935 and still occasionally takes a flight as a passenger.
