WID-DOWS CARMICHAEL STREET, GOVAN AT THE corner of Carmichael Street and Princes Street, which later became known as Vicarfi eld Street, a stone's throw from Ibrox stadium.
When William Munro took over the Whitefield Bar in 1924 he renamed it The Wid-dows.
The lounge was panelled in light mahogany wood heavily varnished, the bar was natural oak and a canopy hung over the bar with concealed lighting and illuminated back lighting panels.
It was demolished in the Seventies.
UNION CAFE 116 UNION STREET, CITY OPENED in 1901 by William Robertson Hunter, who also owned the Argyle Cafe in the Argyll Arcade, now called Sloan's. It was sold to John Young Whyte of the Horse Shoe Bar in 1921.
The Union was popular with members of the armed forces.
During the Second World War an Australian navy man left his cap in the bar, to be collected upon his return. He never did but soon the bar was awash with a huge collection of naval caps and flags from around the world.
The Union Cafe lasted until 1967 when it finally closed its doors. Today, the building is a shoe shop.
