The House on April 8 approved a motion, offered by Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., to instruct House members on the supplemental conference committee to accept a Senate provision providing additional unemployment benefits to laid-off airline workers. Proponents said that laid-off airline workers are struggling financially and need government help. Opponents argued that airline workers shouldn't be singled out for special treatment. Passed: 265- 150
