PAULINE BRADLEY is like any other working mother-of-two with her kitchen ripped out - anxious for her husband to sort it out.
But the full time school secretary may have to wait for a while as her husband, city councillor Warren, is going to be rather busy.
On Monday night, the 39-year-old Wavertree councillor was elected as the leader of Liverpool City Council.
A big task lies ahead in trying to restore the credibility of an authority which has been dogged by internal disputes over the last six months.
But asked about his biggest task in the coming weeks, Cllr Bradley joked: "Fitting that kitchen at home."
When he started the domestic task a few weeks ago, little did he realise that the most dramatic change ever in his life was about to take place.
He coped well as a full-time fireman with Merseyside Fire Service, as a husband, father of two and a city councillor. Even his role as executive member for Leisure and Culture left him with enough time for some DIY around the home.
But now Cllr Bradley has been catapulted into the hot seat of politics, as the new leader of the city council.
As well as building his kitchen, he has to build bridges to put the city back on the straight and narrow after months of turmoil.
Is he up for the job? Wife Pauline has no doubts at all about his ability to handle what could be a rollercoaster ride over the coming months.
Warren Bradley has been a party worker for many years, delivering leaflets since the age of six when his parents were both city councillors.
He resisted the temptation to take the leap into front-line politics, mainly because he had friends of all political persuasions and because he was a member of the Fire Brigades Union.
