The incidence of post-traumatic stress syndrome among Holocaust survivors is some-where between 50 and 60 per cent compared to the 15 to 20 per cent rate among the general population, according to trauma expert Anna Baranovsky.
"Many children of survivors suffer from secondary trauma as a result of their parents relaying their horrific experiences," said Baranovsky, a psychologist and second-generation survivor.
Issues such as death in survivor families and marrying into a survivor family were recently explored by more than 300 adult children of survivors at the Survivor Families conference held at the Joseph E. and Minnie Wagman Centre, part of Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care.
