ROBERT Grubb played in a pop band called Proctor in his native Hobart when Queen came along in the mid-'70s.
For more than two years now he's been performing in the musical We Will Rock You.
"It's good to relive that," he says.
Jillian Green, 23, left Hobart after high school to study at Melbourne's Dance Factory. After a couple of years doing pantomime and corporate functions, We Will Rock You is her first big show.
"Musical theatre is what I wanted to do. This is a dream come true," she says.
Grubb and Green form the Tasmanian contingent in the Australian production of the musical based on songs by '70s and '80s British rock group Queen.
We Will Rock You was written by Englishman Ben Elton. Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor supervised auditions and rehearsals in Melbourne before the show was launched and were involved with the musical production.
After playing in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, the musical arrived in the Japanese capital for its closing run from May 26 to August 24.
"The Japanese producers went to Australia to see the production. They liked it and wanted to take it out," says Kyle Staniland, the show's deputy company manager.
