PREMIER Jim Bacon is surprised at concerns over the closure of car parking at Hobart's Princes Wharf No. 1 shed.

He said the decision to remove car parking was announced jointly by him and Hobart Lord Mayor Rob Valentine in June last year.

At the time Mr Bacon said the Government would spend $1.4 million to replace the shed's roof with tenders for this to be let "at the first opportunity" and the remaining work to include upgrading lighting and power and providing improved toilets.
