WE JUST can't get enough of cooking shows these days, can we? So it's most pleasing to share the news that Channel 10 will soon be devoting an hour every weekday to a bit of Australian-produced gastroporn starring local chefs Alastair McLeod, above, and Matt Golinski. Actually they're just two of a cast of thousands due to appear in Ready, Steady, Cook, based on the long-running series of the same name in England. Fifteen chefs from around Australia have signed on for the show, and they'll be taking turns to pluck "apprentices" from the studio audience to help them devise and cook a meal from a surprise bag of groceries in just 20 minutes. Starring alongside our McLeod and Golinski, of Brisbane's Bretts Wharf and Noosa's Ricky Ricardo's respectively, are the likes of George Calombaris, Darren Simpson and Gabriel Gate. The show kicks off next Monday, but fans of The Bold and the Beautiful need not fear as Ready, Steady Cook has been programmed into the 1pm slot previously reserved for re-runs of NYPD Blue and old movies.
ON THE subject of gastroporn, Channel 10 is also going to screen Jamie's School Dinners. Yes, it stars the annoying Jamie Oliver, who briefly made famous the phrase "lovely jubbly", but this show has a very serious side. Disturbed...
