'Last year, with the Ansett collapse and the international scene, the drive holiday was reborn for the Gold Coast'
FOLLOWING last year's bumper summer tourist season, Gold Coast theme parks are hoping for a repeat performance this Christmas and New Year as Australians continue to shun overseas holidays for domestic destinations.
While international tourists numbers remained volatile, Dreamworld chief executive Tony Braxton-Smith said a healthy surge in domestic travellers would ensure strong trading over the period.
He said he expected more than 200,000 visitors to the Coomera tourist attraction between Boxing Day and the end of January.
