THEY came to pay homage to former Croatian international Aljosa Asanovic but left begrudgingly applauding the skills of Lubo Lapsansky after the Parramatta midfielder played a pivotal role in Power's round-11 National Soccer League victory yesterday.
The visitors ruined what was supposed to be a day of celebration by holding on to collect the hard-earned three points and end United's two-match winning streak.
It was not supposed to end this way, at least not for Asanovic, who was making his last appearance of a three-match guest stint for the club. The skilled attacking midfielder had inspired United to successive wins in his first two games but, despite his best efforts yesterday, could not conjure one last piece of magic.
Asanovic, who was capped 62 times for Croatia and played club football in France, Spain, Italy, Greece and England, will now officially retire but will leave his fans with many memories.
