PERHAPS it is fitting Allen Aylett celebrated his 70th birthday on the eve of Anzac Day. He lives by the motto, "age shall not weary them".
Dr Aylett spends 40 hours a week at his dental surgery in South Melbourne, and another 50 hours as chairman of the Kangaroos.
He is out of bed between three and four every weekday morning, and allows himself the luxury of a sleep-in -- until six o'clock -- at weekends.
Yesterday he enjoyed a typically busy and productive day.
He woke early, jogged for an hour, spent an hour at the dental surgery, ventured to the Kangaroos' Arden St headquarters, fulfilled official obligations at the match against St Kilda at Telstra Dome, then attended the wedding of a nephew.
With wife and constant companion of 53 years Marj beside him, Aylett will shake off the cobwebs this morning and fly to Hobart, where, as the Carbine Club president, he will oversee the racing- linked charity's seventh international conference, bringing together more than 100 members from around the globe.
