Overnight, Chilean artist Liliana Wilson Grez transformed the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center into a serene temple of thought. Her archetypal images depicting human reflection, hurting, and healing are presented on small panels of wood, framed by arched borders that give the works a distinctive religious or nicho feel. Likewise, the human subjects of the paintings demand a quiet reverence and careful consideration. Their expressions of extreme vulnerability invite the viewers to recognize themselves in the emotion, and function as reminders and symbols not unlike the crucifix.
