Lamb prices could make a recovery in 2008 as trading begins to return to normal and the backlog of heavy finished lambs is cleared.
Coupled with this, strong domestic lamb consumption and extensive promotion of British lamb in key export markets like France could help ex-farm values to firm.
Peter King, NFU chief livestock adviser, acknowledged that 2007 was a year most lamb producers would like to forget, but reckoned the remaining backlog of lambs was less than feared.
